Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival 2009 - 17th seasonThe Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival's Seventeenth Season

June 14-21, 2009

The Bach Festival's seventeenth season will feature the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, in observance of the 250th anniversary of Handel's death.

Acclaimed soloists Jennifer Ellis Kampani, soprano, Heidi Kurtz, mezzo-soprano, Kenneth Gayle, tenor, and David Newman, bass, will join the festival in 2009. The magnificent oratorios Samson and Messiah by Handel, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 and Cantata BWV 146, and Handel's Royal Fireworks Music are just a few of the works to be showcased this year with Bach...and Handel.

Marvin Mills, organist and assistant choir director, will return to the festival. The Festival Orchestra and Choir, six daily noon chamber music concerts, and the Leipzig Service will continue as integral parts of the week-long events.

Additional opportunities abound to experience music in unique ways, with the new Baroque Workshop, Elderhostel session, and several programs for youth. Many exciting concerts and activities are in store for listeners and participants of all ages. You won't want to miss the 17th annual festival under the direction of Kenneth J. Nafziger!
